Pet Loss Cafes

Death Cafes have emerged around the world as safe spaces for people to share their experiences of loss, grief, and discuss the complicated dynamics of death and dying.
Far from being “morbid”, these cafes bring comfort, closure and help destigmatise life’s inevitable destination.

I’ve taking this concept one step further and have launched South Africa’s first
Pet Loss Cafe.

Similar to a Death Cafe, this gathering is specifically for pet parents, who are either facing the agonising decision of euthanising their beloved pet, or the disenfranchised grief of pet loss, when no one seems to understand the depth of your grief and the bond you had with your fur baby.
I do.
What's a Pet Loss cafe?

These are forums to gather and share stories about pet loss:
lessons learnt in hindsight and guidance for those having
to face cruel decisions that need to be made.

Pets are now considered part of the family,
but we don't fully acknowledge the stress, heartbreak and the disenfranchised grief associated with having to say goodbye.
These gatherings are a step towards acknowledging
pet bereavement.

You no longer have to navigate this heartbreaking journey alone.

*Anticipatory grief: the profound sense of loss, sadness, and anxiety experienced before an impending death or significant life change.
*Disenfranchised grief: a loss that is not openly acknowledged, socially validated, or publicly mourned, leaving a person feeling isolated or unsupported.
